Y tu mamá también

I went to the Casa Bolívar for Cine Club to watch Y tu mamá también. The film is about two best friends on a Mexican road trip adventure. Interspersed in the journey toward Boca de Cielo (Heaven's Mouth) beach, are politicalized snapshots of the Mexican countryside, development and industrialization. Though I had seen this film before, I watched it without subtitles this time and felt as though I gleaned a lot more from it than I had in the past. For many non-Spanish natives, I think that the sexualixed nature of the story overpowers the deeper meaning and intention of the movie. Understanding more of the dialogue and more of the roadside encounters, I think that I have a fuller appreciation for Y tu mamá también.
