El laberinto del fauno

El laberinto del fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) is a gory, fantasy film about the Spain post Civil War. A young girl discovers a magical labyrinth and begins using the creatures inside to try to cure her mother's illness. Meanwhile, her mother's fiance, a fascist army officer, fights of rebels and attempts to keep his bride alive only to bare him a son. The graphics are pretty stunning and though fanciful, the film casts an interesting perspective on Franco-era Spain. This film is probably too violent for school use though parts of it may be appropriate at the right time and class level.
