La mirada

La mirada by Juan Madrid (España) is another mysterious Spanish story. As the reader progresses through the text, he realizes that the narration is one side of a phone conversation. Continuing further, details about the conversation and the context are slowly divulged. In the end, the reader learns that the narrator who opens saying that he is "not a bad man" has killed a 12 year old boy who entered his store because the boy pointed a gun (which incidentally was a toy) at him and he didn't trust the looks of him. A shocking story fed to the reader in chunks and hints makes for a very entertaining read.
